A wound dressing is a sandwich construction of materials (films, foam, silicone adhesive etc) with different properties Coloplast has an interest to understand how an applied force distributes through the dressing. For this purpose, several test methods are available. A simple test method is pressure mapping. The student project includes development of a Finite Element Model that simulates how the pressure re-distributes through the layers in the dressing and onto the underlying surface. The material characteristics needed for the model must be tested as part of the project. It must be possible to correlate the simulation with the test results from the pressure mapping. Once this correlation is obtained the model should preferably be developed to simulate how pressure is re-distributed if the underlying surface is soft and flexible. The simulation should be done in Comsol #DIKU
